Lessons From Five Bold Young Women

What Bold Step Will Shape Your Tomorrow?

Have you ever thought, “This isn’t how it’s supposed to be”? Or dreamed of a better tomorrow but felt stuck by the way things are today?

You’re not alone. Many women have stood at this crossroad, holding a vision for something greater and wondering, What now?

Here’s the truth: a better future doesn’t come to those who wait—it comes to those who dare to act.

Let’s unpack this through the story of five sisters who broke tradition, stepped out in faith, and changed history.

Who Were the Daughters of Zelophehad?

Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah—five sisters who refused to accept the status quo.

After their father died, they realized their family was about to lose its inheritance simply because there were no sons. In their culture, only men inherited land.

But instead of staying silent, they asked a bold question:

Why should the name of our father be done away from among his family, because he hath no son? Give unto us therefore a possession among the brethren of our father. (Numbers 27: 4)

Their boldness led them to Moses, the elders, and ultimately, to God. The result? God not only granted their request but also established a new law allowing daughters to inherit if there were no sons.

They didn’t just preserve their family’s legacy—they changed the future for countless others.

7 Lessons for Shaping Tomorrow

Here’s what these bold women teach us about taking steps today that can create a better tomorrow:

  1. Don’t Wait for Everyone’s Permission.
The daughters of Zelophehad didn’t ask for validation from friends or family. They went straight to the decision-makers. Sometimes, seeking advice can lead to discouragement. Be discerning about who you share your vision with, and take your bold steps even if others don’t understand.

  2. Go to the Right People.
These sisters approached Moses, the God-ordained leader, humbly and respectfully. Who is in the position to help you with your God-given vision? Pray for wisdom and approach them strategically.

  3. Don’t Let Fear or Norms Hold You Back.
In their culture, women were seen more than heard. But these sisters didn’t let societal limitations stop them. Like them, dare to challenge the norms that limit you while staying in line with God’s Word.

  4. Be Bold but Humble.
They didn’t riot or rebel; they presented their case with wisdom and respect. Boldness doesn’t mean brashness. It means standing firm in God’s will while exhibiting the fruit of the Spirit.

  5. Come Prepared.
These women were knowledgeable and future-minded. They presented a strong, well-thought-out case: “Our father’s name will be wiped out if we don’t inherit.” When stepping into new opportunities, equip yourself with knowledge, vision, and clear reasoning.

  6. Stay United.
All five sisters spoke with one voice. Unity strengthens your case. Whether it’s with family, friends, or coworkers, work together with shared goals and values to achieve lasting impact.

  7. Be Specific About What You Want.
They didn’t just highlight the problem—they made a clear request: “Give us a possession among our father’s relatives.” When approaching God or people, be specific in your requests. Clarity brings results.

And God Responded

Here’s the best part of the story. God responded, “The daughters of Zelophehad are right.” He instructed Moses to grant their request and changed the law to include daughters in inheritance rights. (Numbers 27: 6-11)

Three things stand out here:

  1. Some things won’t change unless you ask. God waits for us to pray, act, and trust Him. God made promises to His people and said “Thus saith the Lord GOD; I will yet for this be inquired of by the house of Israel, to do it for them; “ (Ezekiel 36:37)

  2. Blessings require responsibility. In Numbers 36: 6-9, God, through Moses, gave conditions for preserving the inheritance - “only to the family of the tribe of their father shall they marry”. Obedience is key to maintaining what He entrusts to us.

  3. Sacrifice today for a better tomorrow. The sisters obeyed God’s instructions to marry within their tribe to preserve their inheritance. (Numbers 36: 10) What sacrifices might God be calling you to make for the sake of your legacy?

Why Boldness Matters

Your bold step today could unlock blessings tomorrow.

Sis, what’s the “better tomorrow” you’re dreaming of? Is it stepping into a new calling, restoring a broken relationship, or daring to challenge an old norm?

Take one bold step today.
Ask the hard question.
Make the sacrifice.

Shake the present to shape the future.

And remember, God honours bold women who act in faith.
